<aside> 💡 An Airmart merchant hosted a lightning deal for Chinese New Year on Dungeness crabs, and within just one hour, they received over one hundred orders! The deal offered 2 crabs for $1, but due to limited quantities, only the fastest customers could snatch it up. Nevertheless, even those who missed out still believed they found the best seafood bargains in the SF Bay Area. How’s that for creating urgency?

Taking a cue from Amazon, a lightning deal is a short-lived special offer with big discounts on certain popular items. It's a trick called hunger marketing – you offer a great product at a special price but not many are available. This makes people think the product is even better.
On Airmart, lightning deals are promoted during livestreams, an effective way to attract a large audience. While only a lucky few can get the deal, many end up checking out regardless. Did you know you can set up a lightning deal on any shop?

Choose the product. Take your bestselling item, duplicate it as a new product in store settings, and price it way down (at least 90%). Set a limited quantity, it shouldn’t sell out ASAP, but also shouldn’t hurt your profits either. Make sure this product is also available at full price, so those who miss out on the deal can still buy it.

Make it a lightning deal. Go to ‘More product settings’: list the ‘Original price’, add ‘Deal’ for the product tag, and add a max purchase limit.

Send a message to your customers announcing this deal. If you don’t have a centralized place where you can contact your customers, like a FB group or chat, you can send a campaign to all previous customers directly in Airmart for $0.05 per message.

The lightning deal gets their attention, but it's important to make them interested in more. Even if they miss the deal, they should really want your products enough to buy them anyway!
